In the morning, after making the decision about the upcoming delivery with the doctor, a joyful excitement filled the house. Finally, today we would all meet our little one. A private room, all necessary supplies, and friendly medical staff were already waiting for us at the maternity hospital.
I dreamed of making this day unforgettable, and every moment mattered. A couple of months earlier, during pregnancy courses, we had watched various videos about natural childbirth — home births surrounded by loved ones, water births… At the time, it all seemed unreal, because my previous experience of childbirth — traditionally in a delivery room “under the spotlight” with screaming women — dictated something different. But still, I wanted something special, closer to the joy of unity with the baby.
I wanted to feel every stage of labor without external distractions, without fear of contractions, and to feel the presence of my loved ones. And we succeeded!
Under the gentle guidance of my doctor, we began preparing — we played soft, calming music, dimmed the lights in the room, lit candles, added fragrance. In the end, it became a very intimate and romantic atmosphere. I was absolutely delighted! The gentle hands of the midwife Nuraï Hanım relieved tension with foot and lower back massage — we even managed to become friends! When there was no one else in the room, my husband and I slowly danced and kissed. It was incredibly emotional! We, father and mother, in love as on the first days of our relationship, were now waiting for our son… Later the doctor would say this was the most beautiful and touching moment of the entire birth.
Dr. Irina Ivanovna almost painlessly ruptured the amniotic sac, and the contractions gradually became more intense and longer. I wasn’t afraid at all. No wonder — all tension and pain disappeared as I was immersed in the warm water of the birthing pool. It was beautiful! Like a siren waiting for her child, I enjoyed the flowing streams of warm water under a magical waterfall.
With each contraction, the doctor and I held hands, imagined inflating a balloon, counted out loud, and breathed correctly. It really helped distract from the increasing pain. My husband filmed the process, my mother observed and enjoyed it emotionally, and my daughter was busy playing with Asya, Dr. Irina Ivanovna’s daughter (oh, my dear doctor — she thought of everything!), occasionally running into the room to check on us.
It was so pleasant to spend an hour in warm water, alone with my sensations, hearing the heartbeat of two lives — mine and my son’s. By that time, I was already ready for pushing.
At 21:30 we moved to the delivery bed, and it began… It was warm, and I asked to remove my gown — of course, nothing was refused, maximum comfort. The pushing stage started. I held my mother’s hand tightly, my husband stroked my head, and I could only hear the soft voice of the doctor: “Come on, come on… push, push… my clever girl… just a little more, more, more… well done, my dear… rest… breathe, everything is fine…”
And I obediently rested for a few minutes before the next contraction. The knowledge from Dr. Irina’s courses helped me breathe and push correctly. And when it felt like there was no strength left and no air in my lungs, new reserves of the body would open, and with a muffled cry I would complete the push.
These are maternal instincts. It was painful, but even harder for my baby, and I had to help my little son. With this thought, I made the final push — and my baby was born! My God, what happiness!!!
We did it! We made it!
And there he was — my beloved little bundle on my chest, crying and snuggling close. Tears of happiness in everyone’s eyes. “Show me the little boy,” grandma asked… “Our golden child,” the doctor said softly… My daughter kissed her baby brother on the forehead, and I — a mother of two — was on cloud nine with happiness and tenderness.
We kept the lights off during labor so as not to frighten the baby. The placenta was delivered a few minutes later, and we thanked it for the nine months it served as a home and protection for my baby. Even that was new for me — saying THANK YOU to my placenta.
The neonatologist came and took little Selim into her care, where he promptly “greeted” her with a stream of urine! Another touching moment.
Then came congratulations, phone calls, euphoria… We were discharged the next day. Thanks be to the Almighty, everything went wonderfully!
In conclusion, I would like to share a wish for all mothers — 98% of a successful birth depends on the parents’ mood and mindset. One must be absolutely confident, trust and listen to the doctor, let go of unnecessary fears, and everything will be fine.
Thank you to everyone who was with us on that wonderful day — my dear husband, my caring daughter, my loving and supportive mother, and of course, my deep bow to my beloved doctor Irina Ivanovna Ergül. She is a doctor with a capital D, devoted to her difficult profession and giving herself fully, with love for every woman.
I am very lucky that you are in my life and that we became good friends.
P.S. This story of my wonderful birth was written on January 26, 2016, two years later, on my son Selimhan’s birthday.
