Which specialists should you visit?
To be confident in your future child’s health, it is recommended to start medical examinations several months before the planned conception.
General practitioner consultation
A consultation with a general practitioner helps to exclude chronic diseases or adjust medication. For example, thyroid diseases have become more common recently and may initially present as fatigue, drowsiness, and weight gain. Many people attribute these symptoms to stress and ignore them.
However, in conditions such as hypothyroidism, a lack of maternal hormones during pregnancy can affect the child’s mental development. It is much safer to address these issues before pregnancy rather than adjusting medications in the early weeks.
Dentist visit
Visiting a dentist is essential for the future mother. Tooth decay is a source of infection that can be dangerous for the baby. Healthy teeth are also less prone to further damage. For men, gum infections can reduce fertility.

Urologist consultation
A urologist consultation helps to exclude urogenital infections that can negatively affect pregnancy.
ENT specialist
An ENT doctor helps identify chronic infections of the ear, throat, and nose.
Ophthalmologist
Women with vision problems should consult an ophthalmologist. Vision issues may affect childbirth decisions.
Gynecologist consultation
The gynecologist is the main doctor during pregnancy. The doctor evaluates tests, performs ultrasound, and provides recommendations including folic acid intake.
Genetic consultation
Genetic consultation is recommended in cases of hereditary diseases, previous pregnancy complications, or advanced parental age.
